Well, that didn’t take very long.
All of a day or two ago, outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was blaring that his nation would be launching a “forceful” response against President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs.
Trump had vowed to implement tariffs on Canada immediately for its failure to secure the northern border, further exacerbating the fentanyl epidemic and other criminal enterprises spearheaded by illegals in the United States.
Not to mention the further exacerbation of serious national security concerns.
Rather than own up to the fact that Canada had dropped the ball, bigtime, on implementing basic border controls, Trudeau instead vowed to respond in a “forceful” manner to Trump.
“Now we don’t know precisely what that could look like, but I do know two things. First, if the president does choose to implement any tariffs against Canada, we’re ready with a response. A purposeful, forceful, but reasonable, immediate, response. It’s not what we want, but if he moves forward, we will also act,” Trudeau huffed.
Well then. That’s a rather “forceful” statement from the typically placid Trudeau.
Though it soon became clear that Trudeau’s idea of “force” is quite a bit different than other individuals’ conceptions of “force.”
Apparently, for Trudeau, “forceful” means folding like a beach chair after a singular phone call with Trump.
“I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border,” Trudeau tweeted.
Imagine that. A single phone call resulted in this much action. If only the Biden administration had been so inclined to address the real “root causes” of illegal migration with a single phone call.
Especially as that phone call may have inspired further cooperation, as detailed by Trudeau on X.
“In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million,” Trudeau continued.
Yet another development that should have occurred years ago. And all it took was the threat of tariffs to achieve it … which Trudeau basically affirmed.
“Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together,” Trudeau added.
In other words, Trudeau promptly folded under the “tariffs” threat, despite his “forceful” talk otherwise.
Well, one does have to give Trudeau credit for openly backing down so quickly after delivering such tough talk on a global stage.
Then again, one always did wonder exactly how “forceful” Trudeau thought he could really be with Trump.
After all, Trudeau was pushed around by the Biden administration, of all administrations, over the truckers protesting during the pandemic.
Indeed, the phone call with Biden is precisely when Trudeau decided to label Canadian protestors as an apparent threat to national security.
Frankly, Trudeau was probably one of the few world leaders that even Biden could push around … which means it is no surprise that he rapidly folded after a single phone call with Trump.
With any luck, other nations will hopefully be more cooperative moving forward, especially as they all appear to fold anyway.
From Colombia to Canada to Mexico to an untold number of nations in the future, it is clear that Trump has won every single international dispute to date.
Barring strange developments elsewhere, that streak is highly likely to continue …
Further reinforcing a long overdue “America First” agenda.
