Who knew that long-term GOP representative Mitch McConnell had it in him?
While many other Republicans are quick to call out the obvious weaponization of the courts, media, and other systems against forthcoming President Donald Trump, McConnell has noticeably been a tad more reticent in doing so.
However, when Dems are especially egregious in their weaponization, it seems that even McConnell can – and will – stand up for what’s right.
According to a report from Fox News, McConnell is rather ticked off by the fact that a couple of judges have decided to “unretire” following the victory of Trump, a rather unprecedented move.
One judge includes U.S. District Judge Max Cogburn of North Carolina, who was originally appointed by President Obama.
While Cogburn was set to retire in the coming year, he has apparently decided to stay on, in a rather obvious attempt to thwart Trump from appointing a newer – and saner – judge.
In addition to Cogburn, U.S. District Judge Algenon Marbley of Ohio, who already implied he would retire, apparently decided that he would stay on after all, supposedly because Biden had not found a replacement for him.
Marbley, who was originally appointed by former President Bill Clinton, was sure to loudly announce that the main reason he was staying on was due to Biden apparently not appointing a replacement for him.
“I have therefore decided to remain on active status and carry out the full duties and obligations of the office,” Marbley warbled.
Sure. Something suggests that if Comrade Kamala had won, Marbley would have likely been singing a different tune.
Needless to say, McConnell is furious, and it is rather refreshing to hear him rally against the Dems’ latest nonsense.
“Looking to history, only two judges have ever unretired after a presidential election. One Democrat in 2004 and one Republican in 2009. But now, in just a matter of weeks, Democrats have already met that all-time record. It’s hard to conclude that this is anything other than open partisanship,” McConnell roared.
Without a doubt. Then again, the Dems’ entire campaign was based on “open partisanship,” so it is really no surprise that they are continuing in the same behavior even now.
McConnell also noted that the rescinding of the retirements demonstrated “a political finger on the scale,” which is a rather accurate observation.
“Never before has a circuit judge unretired after a presidential election. It’s literally unprecedented. And to create such a precedent would fly in the face of a rare bipartisan compromise on the disposition of these vacancies,” McConnell continued angrily.
Well, it was also quite “unprecedented” to attempt to ram Kamala through to the presidency, and perhaps even more unprecedented for her to blow through over a billion – only to end up in debt – under two months later.
Still teed off over the Dems’ blatant partisanship, McConnell also openly encouraged the incoming Trump administration to “explore all available recusal options with these judges.”
“As I repeatedly warned the judiciary in other matters, if you play political games, expect political prizes. So let’s hope these judges do the right thing and enjoy their well-earned retirement and leave the politics to the political branches,” McConnell added pointedly.
Now, that’s the spirit!
