President Donald Trump recently delivered a rousing address to Congress that should have invigorated the entire nation, but his remarks were definitely not met with appreciation by all in attendance.
On the contrary, one Democrat in particular stood up to harangue the president quite openly, and quite publicly.
Much to the dismay of other Democrats who insist upon their apparent superiority to Republicans in this context.
Which is precisely why the same Democrats ironically sided with the Republicans in a vote regarding whether or not to censure the Democrat representative.
CNN recently, if grudgingly, admitted to the fact that ten Democrats are clearly on the side of decorum, as they voted in favor of censuring a representative who very publicly heckled Trump during his recent address to Congress.
“Ten Democrats joined with House Republicans on Thursday to censure Rep. Al Green for his protest during President Donald Trump’s address to Congress this week — a formal condemnation of the Texas Democrat’s actions. The vote highlights divisions within the Democratic Party over how some members protested the president’s Tuesday night remarks,” CNN reported.
Well, how about that. Have to give the ten Democrats credit for standing by their principles, even if it means voting with Republicans.
Besides, censure is not exactly the most terrible punishment in the world anyway, which CNN admits.
“Censure amounts to a significant rebuke of a member of Congress, though it does not carry an explicit penalty beyond a public admonition of a lawmaker and is not as severe as expulsion. Censure, which was once considered rare in the House chamber, has been used more frequently in recent years,” CNN detailed.
Has it ever. How could it not, with all those loud voices swarming the room?
“House Democratic leadership had urged members not to mount high-profile protests and show restraint during the address, cautioning such actions could be seized upon by the GOP,” CNN added.
Well, those actions were seized upon, that’s for sure.
Just consider the remarks of House Speaker Mike Johnson.
“He deliberately violated House rules, and an expeditious vote of censure is an appropriate remedy. Any Democrat who is concerned about regaining the trust and respect of the American people should join House Republicans in this effort,” Johnson remarked in disgust.
Without a doubt.
Then again, what is to be expected from a representative who is already filling articles of impeachment against Trump?
As previously reported, Green made it rather clear that he is rather determined to remove Trump from office.
Even if he uses the Middle East as a justification to do so.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America … I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done,” Green asserted.
Well, is it any wonder that the same representative would be amongst the most disruptive in the room during Trump’s most recent address?
