Promises made, promises kept.
And some of the biggest promises of all relate directly to stemming the massive flow of illegal migrants, one of the many “gifts” from the previous administration.
While President Donald Trump attacked the out-of-control challenges with migration very shortly after taking office, he has hardly stagnated in his efforts.
On the contrary, he has intensified his efforts, which was clear in a presidential action issued on January 29, 2025, which has been further reinforced during the final days of March.
In the action – “Expanding Migrant Operations Center at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to Full Capacity” – the Trump administration makes it abundantly clear that the use of naval forces is more than an appropriate response to the persistence of illegal migration.
Especially when considering the assistance that the Navy could provide at Guantanamo Bay, amongst other locales.
“I hereby direct the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security to take all appropriate actions to expand the Migrant Operations Center at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to full capacity to provide additional detention space for high-priority criminal aliens unlawfully present in the United States, and to address attendant immigration enforcement needs identified by the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security,” the order declared.
Have to love the focus on “high-priority criminal aliens” … who are also known as terrorists who have no business being on American soil, given all the crime and havoc they tend to cause.
“This memorandum is issued in order to halt the border invasion, dismantle criminal cartels, and restore national sovereignty,” the order continued.
Thanks to the Navy, that national sovereignty is poised to become more expansive than ever, as the Trump administration just announced the deployment of another Navy destroyer … for purposes of repelling illegal migrants.
Indeed, the USS Spruance, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, departed from the Naval Base San Diego in order to “to aid in the ongoing maritime efforts to curb illegal immigration and drug smuggling,” as reported by Fox News.
According to General Gregory Guillot, USNORTHCOM commander, this deployment would certainly expand the “unique military capabilities” Trump has not shied away from in controlling the border.
“USS Spruance’s deployment as part of US Northern Command’s southern border mission brings additional capability and expands the geography of unique military capabilities working with the Department of Homeland Security,” Guillot asserted.
Excellent. Especially in conjunction with another destroyer.
In a separate report from Fox News, the USS Gravely, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, departed from Naval Weapons Station Yorktown in Virginia to the U.S.-Mexico border in order to “to carry out President Donald Trump’s southern border executive orders.”
“Gravely’s sea-going capacity improves our ability to protect the United States’ territorial integrity, sovereignty, and security,” Guillot mused.
Indeed, it is. Frankly, it is heartening to learn how involved the Navy can be in combatting illegal immigration.
“[The Navy’s maritime presence] contributes to the all-domain, coordinated DOD response to the Presidential Executive Order and demonstrates our resolve to achieve operational control of the border,” Guillot proclaimed.
Without a doubt. Frankly, varied American allies, such as the United Kingdom, could take note of this approach, given the enormous number of migrants arriving to England via maritime means.
Indeed, Pentagon’s chief spokesman Sean Parnell made it clear that operational control over the sea and land border is critically important.
“It’s not only vital for the United States to have control of our border via land. It’s equally important to control our territorial waters, and this deployment directly supports U.S. Northern Command’s mission to protect our sovereignty,” Parnell boomed.
Absolutely!
