“An act of national self-sabotage.”
That’s exactly how a bipartisan duo, from none other than New York (!), described the current state of “foreign gifts” to college campuses these days.
As reported by the New York Post, two members of the New York House, Representative Andrew Garbarino (R-LI) and Representative Ritchie Torres (D-Bronx), have wisely decided to set aside party-line differences for the good of the country.
It seems that neither representative is thrilled by overt foreign influence on American colleges and universities, which is rather evident in the massive number of financial “gifts” that they receive from hostile regimes.
Indeed, through the “No Foreign Gifts Act,” backed by both Garbarino and Torres, higher education institutions are mandated to report an offer of funding from a country to the US Secretary of State for approval in order to maintain or otherwise receive government funding.
And, if any universities protest such an act, it’s even clearer where their bread is buttered.
After all, that $5M+ salary for the Columbia University president isn’t going to emerge out of thin air.
Speaking of which, since when is it appropriate for any university president to make a higher salary than more than one CEO?!
Little wonder that such an act has been long overdue, as detailed by Representative Gabriano.
“Foreign influence has no place in our education system – especially when it’s aimed at spreading antisemitism and anti-American sentiment on our college campuses. For far too long, radical organizations like Students for Justice in Palestine have been propped up by foreign entities with connections to terrorism,” Gabriano declared.
Indeed, they have.
Heck, quite a few professors actually encourage the madness.
“Allowing these malign actors to continue funneling money into our colleges and universities would be the height of recklessness. This legislation seeks to put an end to this dangerous flow of foreign funds, protect our students and preserve the integrity of our academic institutions,” Gabriano continued.
Not to mention preserve rather basic protections for Jewish students.
Representative Torres also echoed the thoughts of Representative Gabriano, noting the October 7 attacks in particular as inspiration for the act.
“The No Foreign Gifts Act represents a crucial step toward safeguarding the integrity of our nation’s higher education system from malicious foreign influence, which has become increasingly pronounced in the aftermath of October 7,” Torres added.
Integrity has frankly been on the decline since radical Marxists took over universities in the 1960s, though the added terrorist dimension is just absurd.
Especially after 9/11.
Not to mention the increasingly malign influence of other large national powers that have a vested interest in undermining the United States.
“By prohibiting gifts from countries that have supported foreign terrorist organizations, like China, Russia, North Korea and Iran, this legislation would ensure that institutions of higher learning remain free from malign financial manipulation that is corrupting the minds of America’s next generation and causing social disorder,” Torres added.
And, heck, who knows?
Maybe universities might make critical thinking “great again,” once they minimize the malign influences they shamelessly profit from.
